Success Imitated

Third party vendors cloned the Data General original Nova instruction set, and in some cases extended it.  The most common initial third-party vendor design extension was creating a single-level indirect mode so that a full 64 K words could be addressed with a single indirect memory reference rather than the Nova's 32K word address space with multi-level indirect reference.
