Operating Systems

The whole purpose of these new-fangled minicomputers is to perform a specified application function, usually with the assistance of an "operating system".  Sometimes the distinction between the "operating system" and the "application environment" or "implementation language" is blurred, but usually the operating system is a separate entity with a life of its own.

The following lists summarize the major operating systems that run on the corresponding hardware.  If you know of one that is not listed, please tell us!
